Sri Shankari - The Universal Mother | Indian Classical Dance
An original contemporary collaboration between Indian classical dance and music that celebrates gender equality in Indian mythology. This collaboration, of Bharatanatyam, Mridangam, Kanjira and Konnakol, in Bahudari raga, Tisra Triputa talam, depicts the different manifestations of goddess Devi. As “Shankari” the consort of lord Shankara, as “Annai” the mother of Ganesha & Muruga, and as “Malai Magal” the daughter of the hills. At the heart of this classical piece is gender equality, portrayed through the description of Ardhanari, the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakthi into one body, an embodiment of equality between man and woman.
Conceived by Akshay Anantapadmanabhan (Mridangam, Konakkol, Kanjira, music arrangement) and Sudharma Vaithiyanathan (Bharathanatyam, Konakkol, Nattuvangam, choreography), the creative team that brought it all together includes Mahesh Raghvan (Music arrangement, Mixing and Programming), A. Lakshmanaswamy (Choreography), G Vijayaraghavan (Lyric and Jathi Composition), K Hariprasad (Vocal and Music Composition) and Aswin George John (Sound Engineer)
…………. the spiritual union of Purusha and Prakriti, Consciousness and Energy as one
